| Superlight is Richard Byers, a visual artist from Sydney, who after many years as an observer of local video art decided to become a performer in early 2002 at Frigid for the Couchblip! Album launch.
Frigid then became a regular place to see Superlight visuals teamed up with Sub Bass Snarl and others throughout 2002 and 2003. Other highlights include being part of Video Combustion at the Performance Space, Sound Summit (2002, 2003, 2004) in Newcastle and Sydney Opera house, DJ Rupture (Spain) at the 2003 Sydney Festival Bar, Skylounge 2003 at the National Museum of Australia (Canberra), Kid Koala (Canada) 2004, Amnesty International Freedom 2004, Purdy album launch 2004 and Japan Tour in 2004 with Couchblip artists, Robokoneko, Disjunction Reunion and Himuro
Superlight is the visual coordinator for Frigid, a weekly electronic music club night. With plans to collaborate with more local and interstate artists, and to promote new and emerging talent in both audio and visual mediums.
Superlight's visuals combine cinematic video and urban photographic details, textural video samples, strong graphic elements and live camera feeds, mixed, edited and composited live off laptop. The result being a live improvised video performance, synchronised with the music performance.
